Our top tips for your special song

If you’re considering booking the Adelaide String Duo for your wedding ceremony you’ll quite likely have one or two “special songs” that you’d like us to play. But how well will your song request work for our combination of violin & cello?

If in doubt, just ask – we’re more than happy to give our opinion. Ahead of that, here are a few pointers based on our past experience:

1. Most songs will be fine

That’s the most basic answer. We’ve been complimented for our original arrangements of songs as diverse as Meatloaf’s I’d Do Anything for Love to Taylor Swift’s Lover. Click here to see all the songs we already cover.

2. Songs without a hummable tune probably won’t work

Examples include:

  • raps
  • highly percussive songs
  • songs with a lot of guitar picking or strumming between each vocal line
  • atmospheric orchestral music

3. Repetitive songs

Songs that are very repetitive will probably sound even more repetitive without the words and studio production

4. Strings don’t mean a thing!

Just because the original song has some violins in the video, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be great for string duo. Strings in modern music generally add texture to the production rather than carrying the main elements of the song.

Hope this helps! If you’d like us to assess the suitability of your song for our duo, the easiest first step is to email us a YouTube link. Please send us the original song (or your favourite version) not a string cover, unless the cover is for our exact combination (violin & cello with no backing tracks).
