Adelaide String Duo

Jacqui and Brenton Edgecombe are the Adelaide String Duo.  It’s a violin & cello duo based in Adelaide, South Australia.  We play for weddings, corporate functions, celebrations of life and events of all types.  We’ve performed on six-star luxury cruise ships and brought joy to aged-care residents.  Our extensive song-list ranges from serious classical music, musical theatre and traditional tunes to quirky arrangements of pop hits and rock anthems. We’re also happy to create an arrangement of your special song or songs for the big day.

Why a Violin Cello Duo?

Our duo is perfect for situations where you need light musical ambience but you don’t have the space or budget for a string quartet.  Space can be an issue when your venue is a restaurant, rotunda or juice bar.  We’ll probably even fit in your lounge room!  Violin & cello is a wonderful combination because it provides both the bass and treble ranges of the musical spectrum.

Adelaide String Duo is more than just a violin cello duo.  Individually we have played in professional orchestras and ensembles throughout Australia, including Adelaide Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony, West Australian Symphony, Bolshoi Ballet Orchestra, Sydney Opera House Orchestra, Melbourne Event String Quartet (co-founders) and many more.  Also with our 20-plus-years of main-stage entertainment experience, we can be as entertaining or background as the situation demands.  We can also take on:

Now in Adelaide!

We are both Adelaide born and educated but have spent over two decades living and performing in the Eastern states.  We’re ecstatic to be back in our hometown and continuing doing what we love best – making music together.

Do you travel?

As full-time professional musicians, we’ll never miss an opportunity to add value to your event. So we will travel to any location around South Australia. We’ll play in Mount Gambier, Port Augusta, York Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Whyalla, Port Pirie, Victor Harbor, Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Renmark, Loxton, etc.  Ask us about our travel allowance packages for events outside the Adelaide Metropolitan area.

What is the price?

You can find the price list for the Adelaide String Duo and our associated acts The Cello Guys and Two Hearts Duo here.  Adelaide String Duo perform either acoustically or with amplification.  Amplification is generally only required for larger functions. Being able to perform completely acoustically (ie. without amplification) makes us much more flexible to play in outdoor wedding venues where power is often not available.

Can you perform outdoors?

The Adelaide String Duo is ideal for outdoor performances as we require no electricity for instruments or amplification. However, our precious acoustic instruments and the requirement for high level finger dexterity mean that we do not accept outdoor bookings during the colder months. We’ve arbitarily set our “indoor only” limits between ANZAC Day and the first day of Spring (September 1). We may make exceptions if your event is in a well-covered and heated verandah, for example, so please contact us and check if you’re unsure.

For any outdoor bookings we require suitable shelter from the elements since our instruments are fragile and valuable.

Recording services

We record string lines, virtual string quartets, string orchestras and many other things at our bespoke home studio. Perfect for songwriters and film score producers. We’ve also taken on some really interesting jobs over the years like arranging and a recording a full string orchestra to match an old vocal recording by a beloved relative of our client. If it’s even close to possible we’ll give it a go!

Music for Funerals

Adelaide String Duo are experienced in providing tasteful and appropriate music for funerals, celebrations of life, memorial services and graveside services.  If your loved one loved classical music we can add that special touch to your day.  We can create an arrangement for your loved one’s special song or piece of music if it is not already in our repertoire (where time permits).  We are available for all religious and secular services.

House & public concerts

Ask us about an intimate house concert.  There’s no place like home. Or you may prefer us to add an air of calm to your workspace with a bespoke office-concert. A peaceful mind is a productive mind! We also offer a Classics & Pop program where we combine the forces of Adelaide String Duo with our poppier combo Two Hearts Duo.

Professional String Players

We have a pool of fellow professional string players (mainly from the Adelaide Symphony or professional string quartets) who we may call upon as substitutes if we are not available for the date of your event.
